*THANKFUL* thirty

I am thankful for my blog!

When I started it I just wanted a place to store my memories. Hang pics and unload my brain. But since then I have found a community. A group of people that I've never met. People spread out all over our country. I wish that we lived closer, that we could hang out and have tea or go shopping. I'd love to cuddle Emma and smooch adorable pugs. Someday I hope to do just that.

Until then, thank you! You all are a bright spot in my day.

Ps: I'm also thankful that tomorrow is December. End of NaBloPoMo. I've enjoyed the everyday post. I would like to continue everyday posts and I intend to but can't commit to that at this time. There were days when that was a challenge and with my upcoming treatment I may not be able to. I'm takin it a day at a time.

Pps: Tomorrow. Mexico! Ole!!!

And a thankful quote to get you through the day,
Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful. - Buddha

And another,
We give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way. -ritual chant

Amen!

I am thankful for my mini vacation!

In two days we head off to Encenada Mexico for a little R&R with some friends. It's just for the weekend but It'll be fun. It may be the last time for a the next 4/5 months that we can take off like this.

I'm just going to hang by the pool. Hit the jacuzzi at night with a margarita and shop.

Remember to pack:

swim suit
camera
a deck of cards (in the event of foul weather)
nice smelly candle (in the event of foul hotel room)

*THANKFUL* twenty eight

I am Thankful that today I have hair.

I'm thinking about my hair because it is in desperate need of something, everything. It's too long and I can see my roots. Bad.

It's overdue for service, I can't get it to style right and I want to say forget it and throw a bandana on until I see my hairdresser.

I didn't make an appointment because in a little over 2 weeks I'll be shaving it all off.

Every morning when I want to cuss at it I remember that I won't have it to cuss at soon.

So today, I'm going to be thankful that I have hair.

I am Thankful for the rain!

We had a wonderfully cool weekend. Last night it rained and this morning everything is wet and clean and cool.

It makes me want to stay home and drink tea and make cookies.

My tree is almost finished. I've been making ornaments all weekend. All I need is a tree skirt. Maybe a different garland. I sometimes make a popcorn garland because I love the look of it. But I tend to get popcorn all over and I don't want to vacuum. If I can't find a nice garland soon I may make it. Last year I saw the cutest garland made with pretzels and looped with colored construction paper. I need more color on the tree, like, maybe some poinsettia flowers.

I'll cruise Wally World this week and see if I can't find something. I need new placemats for the table and towels for the bathrooms too.

I am Thankful for my new Christmas tree!

BH and I needed a tree. I love a nice artificial tree. The weekend after Thanksgiving is the time that I put up my Christmas decorations. We went Friday after the am crowd went home and picked out a nice 7.5' tree. It's pretty cool. It comes in three parts. You set it in the stand and the branches fall down into place. Then you fluff out the needles. Whalaa, you have instant Christmas tree.

I'm busy making decorations. Gotta go!

Wait! The Farmers Market was great. I got three very pretty poinsettias, red with pink splashes. Lots of persimmons, yum, this will no doubt be the last weekend for those. And I picked up my doggie stuff. Can't show it yet as they don't fit. AHHHHH!

*THANKFUL* twenty five

I am thankful for the Farmers Market in Temecula.

Where I am going today.

I am buying some cool doggie stuff, I'll share later.

And maybe some persimmons if they have any.

Oh and some new Christmas stuff. My tree is up, whoohoo.

This is number 2 son's long time girlfriend Barbie.

And Number 3 son.
He had to work so when he finally got off work at 6:45. No T-day dinner with the fam for him. I told him to swing by, I'll save a plate for him. Good thing I did because the green green casserole was completly gone. I should have made more.

We've also invited some other people so it should be a fun day.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Eat lots of turkey, mashed pototoes and don't forget the pies. Have a piece of each, it's a holiday.

Except for AM, she'll pass on the turkey. What do you have instead? You'll have to let us know.

I am thankful for my friends!

I have the coolest friends!

Yesterday my friend Christie dropped by my office and gave me these!

Fake eyelashes!

And look at these!

They are pink, blue, green yellow orange and lavender lashes. Is that hysterical?

I was out so she left this little note that said,

'These are for you to practice and play with as you go through your metamorphases.'

Meaning that I'll go from a hairy butterfly to a bald worm.

Do I have the coolest friends or do I have the coolest friends?

I have the coolest friends!

*THANKFUL* twenty

I am Thankful for my boots!

I know it sounds lame but I get cold in the winter. When it dips below 70* I start freezing. I usually ask for and get a new pair of slippers for Christmas. The boys have a great time looking for fun slippers for me. A few years ago I got frog slippers. When you pushed his eye he croaked. One year I got Grinch slippers. Frank took care of those for me.

But last year for Christmas my boys got me these Ugg type boots. At first I didn't know if I'd like them. The seemed so big and bulky. I have big feet so large shoes are, well, large and sometimes heavy. I tried them on and fell in love. They are soft, warm and really not that bulky. Toasty toes!

They are great for cruising around the property. I've worn them in public several times on 'kickin it' days. I've even slept in them. A little slice of heaven I tell you.

Ain't they grand?

They almost come up to my knees.

Yes that is my kitchen table. We hardly eat there. Don't tell BH, ok?

*THANKFUL* nineteen

I am Thankful for my car!

I think most people these days take their cars for granted. It doesn't matter the cost, we NEED a car. But I've always been thankful for being able to drive and having a car that works.

When we first moved to the states I was very young and we lived next door to this family from Texas. They were such wonderful people and we kept in touch for many years after we moved from there. Doris, the mom, did not drive. She was a typical old fashioned lady and I loved her. She was kind, smart and hysterically funny with a contagious laugh. She never wrote a check and didn't know how drive. My mom drove her where she needed to go until her husband got home. When he died many years later she instantly became a non person. She recovered beautifully but I'll never forget how lost she was and how she struggled to learn everything that comes as second nature to most people.

I got my drivers license the minute I turned 16. I also opened a bank account and figured out on my own how to balance the checkbook.

I love to drive! I love being able to hop in my car and go where ever I please, when ever I want. I have loved every car I've ever owned. First was my daddy's old worn out VW. Then I got a Subaru Brat, (you never see them anymore but they were the hot thing in the late 70's) then we picked up an old '69 Mercedes, I loved that car, then a Mazda 626. When the family grew we thought we needed a van. I really didn't want to drive anything that big but we really did need a larger car. We got a Dodge Caravan. When we crashed that we got a Mazda MPV van. I have to say that the vans were my least fav cars. Now that my boys are all in their own cars I traded in the van for a Toyota Camry. It's a great car and I am thrilled to have it.

Do you want to see my dream car?

A little red Mini! Yes someday I will own her and she will be mine!
A few weeks ago I saw this. . . . .
Is that hideous or what?

A two seater min with this huge obnoxious can on top. Who would do that to such an adorable car? Who? Honestly!

I am Thankful for Dr. David!

Dr. David is my oncologist. I guess I'd have to find another Doctor if I didn't like him but I do. He is an older Doctor. He has a quiet soft spoken way about him. He seems genuinely concerned about me and my treatment. He explains everything carefully and in a language I can understand.

He has a wonderful staff of caring women. I was intruduced to them yesterday and they showed me around. They gave me a sheet that explains what they do and what to expect.

They seem to be orgainized at this point. Lots of phone numbers and after hours on call people for emergency's

I feel very comfortable with the office and the staff. I can be thankful for that.

*THANKFUL* seventeen

I am Thankful for my dog groomer!

Her name is Joanie, his is Ron and they are a husband wife team that live and have their own business here in LE. She likes to call herself Grandma Joanie to all her little and big furry charges. She is tough. Naughty poochies do not stand a chance with her and most do not even try.

She has always groomed my little Maya B even before I got her. She does a great job and she always knows what I want. I just say the usual and she does the rest. She knows I do not like the feathered feet, the hairy private parts, trim the ears and don't make the tail look freaky.

Not only that she is a good friend. Not like we hang or anything, that dear woman works so many hours but I would love to. We've been though many things together, homeschooling (she tried for a few years) problem teenagers and sickness and health.

I love you guys! I am Thankful for your family.

*THANKFUL* sixteen

I am Thankful for the internet!

So so many reasons to love the internet. I look up movie times and movie reviews. Email for business and pleasure. I use it daily for business. It is a life saver for locating the directions for just about everything. Recipes, yes tons of recipes, I really never need to buy another cookbook. But I will. Quilt patterns, craft ideas, gardening. Research, I've been able to get information on just about everything without going to the library every time.

Not only informative but entertaining as well.

Things like this really boost my spirits.

This guy and buds dressed up as Amish last year. I think you can go here or maybe here to see where these came from.

I love the lovely 'lady' in her prayer cap lighting a ciggy. Too hilarious. And the guy in back I think is Petey. He looks a little tanked if you ask me. Maybe not enough variety in the old gene pool.

It comes with a little poem.

we are the amish
i be the boy
we come in peace
we're on rumspringa
the boy in the tee
owns double shot coffee company
go ye forth and drink

I'm sure he means coffee. Everyone knows the Amish don't drink. They don't do they? I'm pretty sure they don't. Anyway stop by Peteys blog.

*THANKFUL* fifteen

I am Thankful for DVD's!

Before I begin my review of the Da Vinci Code I would like to say that I am thankful for DVD's. When my boys were little it was impossible for a lot of reasons to go to the movies. First it was expensive on a single income to haul the clan off to the movies. Second there were not a whole lot of movies for young kids back then. If there was a movie that my 5 and 7 year old would enjoy there was still a 2 year old with no attention span and a bad case of the wiggles. A movie night out for the grown ups meant a baby sitter.

Of course my babies tower over me now but I still appreciate DVD's. I carefully watch the commercials and read the reviews and decide what is theater worthy and what will be watched at home.

Some deciding factors are;

Big budget, big name movies should almost always be watched in the theaters. Just about anything with Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford and Sean Connery can be seen on the big screen. Anything with a lot of scenery like Cast Away should be seen in the theaters. I also love period movies with a lot of costumes. The movie doesn't have to be good, I just like seeing those in larger than life format.

Renters are anything that looks interesting but does not meet the above critera. Comedy's are almost always renters, love stories too. I enjoy a good love story but I do not care to boo hoo in public. I prefer to watch complicated story lines with a remote control. If I miss something I can rewind or back up or whatever it is you do with DVD's.

DVD's are really my preferred choice of movie watching. I don't have to worry about the perfect seat or sitting next to a talker, I don't have to wait in line, I don't have to spend a fortune on munchies and I can pee without missing anything.

Now for the main attraction. . . . .

The Da Vinci Code

Ok, it was ok.

I didn't love love love it. I liked it. Tom's hair wasn't as bad as I remembered. The action was good enough, the story flowed well.

So what was my problem?

There were times during the movie where I felt this was not the right role for Tom. Maybe it was the script because it felt forced or strange. I'm not sure. I did not like the Sophie girl, like, at all. Both Tom and the Sophie girl were suppose to look surprised or something when all this stuff was unraveling and they just looked silly (now you're finding out something amazing!)

Would I see it again? I'm not sure. Maybe. It depends. Not right away anyway.

Should you see it? Sure, go ahead. It's worth a one time through. Rent it, pop some corn and get a couple packs of Red Vines. I think you'll enjoy it.

*THANKFUL* fourteen

The Da Vinci Code is coming out today!

Can I really be Thankful for that? Maybe I am running out of things to be thankful for.

I loved loved loved the book and couldn't wait for the movie to come out. AND it has Tom Hanks in it so it's gotta be good right?

Well when it came out all of our weekends were booked so something was going on and we kept saying tomorrow or Saturday or whatever and it never happened. Once we were in the parking lot of the theaters and got an emergency call before we had a chance to get our tickets. Plus it was getting bad reviews, I think. Anyway, we didn't see it in the theaters.

So today it is coming out!

I didn't reserve it like I planned so I may not get to see it tonight. The video guy is cool so he may put one aside for me anyway.

Anyone see this? Great? Good? So so?

I know Toms hair is hideous! What was he thinking? Who made him do that?

In other news:

I understand our little town made big news with the fire. It was on the mountain side of the lake and was an awesome sight. It got close to several homes but I've not heard that any houses were burned. All of our friends are safe. It was not close to us.

So I am Thankful about that!

*THANKFUL* Thirteen

I am Thankful for long lasting lipstick!

No really, I am!

I did not wear much makeup as a stay at home mommy. Ok I did not wear any makeup as a stay at home mommy. I was lucky to get both legs shaved at the same time.

Now that I work full time and my face is older (how does the outside age before the inside?) I needed some make up.

I was very disappointed by the stuff I was getting at Walmart. (where else do you get make up?) Then I met this lady that worked at a beauty supply shop that sold Bare Essentials. I'd seen the commercials, so I hussled on down there and tried it. I love it! It's pricy to begin with but I've had it for 2 years and I'm just now replacing the foundation. I still have oodles of the blush, finishing powder and shadow. I rarely wear mascara, I have it but I'm too lazy to take it off. Then there's the lipstick.

My sons girlfriend wear MAC. She swears by it and never wears anything else. Know how much that stuff is? $20.00! For a tube of lipstick! $20.00! I'm sure it's wonderful stuff but I'm not paying 20 bucks for a tube of lipstick. Still I need to wear lipstick because my lips, something happened to my lips, they are faded and dry. So Wet N Wild, 99 cents, that works for me. I can buy 20 different shades if I want. In our retched heat many times my lipstick becomes unusable blobs in my purse. For 99 cents I don't get too worked up over that. But it wears off quickly. I find myself reapplying it constantly. Or not because I am lazy.

Then a girlfriend told me about long lasting lipstick. I've seen the commercials but they are like 10 bucks for a tube and I don't know, you know, will it work? Will I hate the color and be out 10 bucks?

I am lazy and cheep.

I decide to try it.

I love it!

I found 2 colors that I love. It comes in a lip gloss type tube. (I guess you can't take this on the plane) It won't melt in my car. I apply it once in the morning, sometimes later in the afternoon. It's wonderful! And Wally World had it for under 8 bucks!

It's weird if you've never tried it. You apply the color and then it dries sticky and kind of yucky. Then you put on the clear top coat that comes with it and you're good to go. Sometimes I apply a little more top coat during the day as my lips get dry.

So if you've never tried long lasting lipstick, give it a try!

No I am not running out of things to be thankful for.

*THANKFUL* twelve

I am Thankful for my job!

I was a mommy housewife for over 20 years. I loved that and never thought I'd want to go back to work. In fact I did not want to go to work but financially I needed to. I found several part time jobs close to home. At first I worked for a post office type place, like Mail Boxes etc, but not. Almost a year there. Then the dear owner sold and the new owners were not. Dear that is. So a few doors down is this coffee shop, like a Starbucks with food. Ice cream too! I worked there for several months until the owner folded. Not able to pay the bills or me he struggled to sell it, and did.

While there I began talking with another shop owner. He would come in for coffee every morning. He had a bookkeeper that was giving him trouble. She had a lot of problems and would not show up for work, she finally quit altogether. I told him that this ship was sinking and that I had worked as a bookkeeper before I had kids, maybe I could help him out.

When the coffee shop died I began working at the real estate office, as a bookkeeper for his property management.

I really really love it. So much so that I have gone on to become a real estate sales agent.

Do I miss being a stay at home mommy?

Yes I do. I still would love to stay home, cook more, quilt more, have more dogs.

But I really love this job. I'm happy.

*THANKFUL* eleven

I am Thankful for Lake Elsinore!

When I was a little girl we used to come here to camp at the lake. I would sleep in a lounge chair and look up at the stars and wish that someday I could live here.

We would come over the Ortega Mountains with our camper and sometimes a boat in tow. The road was windey and a little scary but I would wait for the chance to see the lake from up high. Then I knew we were almost there.

Now I live here and it felt like home from the first. It was a much smaller town 15 years ago. Everyone knows everyone. There was only 1 grocery store on this side of the lake then and you could never get in or out without visiting with a friend. We've really grown since then but I still love it here. I often take a little extra time so I can take the road where I can see the lake. Birds stop here in the winter on the way south and in the summer on the way north. Some birds stay all year.

I think it's beautiful here.

It's home.

I am Thankful for my surgery!

My boob job! Dr. 'C' did such a great job! My left looks just like my right. There are no holes or dents. The scar is hidden strategically, if you know what I mean. The lymph scar looks like a smile and is far enough down that even with a tank you will not notice it. Every doctor that has seen it since has said the same thing. I didn't think it would matter so much to me but now that it is done and healing up I am very happy with the results.

Not to mention the evil 'alien' is out now.

Thank you Dr. 'C'! You are a wonderful woman and a fantastic surgeon.

I am Thankful for BH's family. All of them.

They are such warm caring people. Of course they are! He is part of them.

He is close to his family. He talks often to his mother. Checks up on his siblings from time to time and is constantly calling his sons.

Having such a wonderful family keeps you grounded. It's what life is about. It's the real deal.

And they like me!

I know, what's not to like. But they do!

BH's mother sent me this wonderful card yesterday. She lives in Arizona. Since she has heard about my 'condition' she has been concerned about me. I am in her prayers. She is a Godly woman and very dear to me.

All of his sons and their wives call frequently to check up on me.

I enjoy their company and am blessed to be apart of their family.

I am Thankful for mammograms.

Yes I am!

I know they are uncomfortable and sometimes painful. I hate all kinds of medical procedures too.

Mammograms are a lifesaver. My tumers are so small I could not feel them. If not for mammos my cancer would be a lot worse before I would detect it.

So ladies, go get your mammos done. And be thankful!

*THANKFUL* seven

I am Thankful to be an American.

I was not born here in the US of A. I feel as though I have. I was born in Canada and came here when I was 4. I was schooled here and we've lived in So. Cal the whole time. I do not remember anything else.

Even though we were eligible for citizenship for many years we just never did. My mom does not read English well and they worried about that. About 10 years ago we all applied together. And officially became American Citizens.

I've only missed 1 election in all those years. I study the ballot and encourage everyone to vote.

Our great country has many problems. Every country does. It is still a great country. I'll never live anywhere else. I love MY country. God Bless the USA!

Now go out and vote!

*THANKFUL* six

I am Thankful that I live in Southern California!

I say So Cal because Northern California has much different weather. It could almost be a state unto itself.

I have lived here most of my life. Mostly in the OC (Orange County) but for the last 15 years I have lived in neighboring Riverside County.

OC is about 10* cooler or hotter than where I live yet it is only 45 min away. The summers get hot, real hot, triple digits for much of the summer. And this summer was a scorcher. I love the heat for the most part. It occasionally get humid but generally it is a dry heat. I am always thankful when fall comes and cools our days. The winters can be cold, very cold. (you know, whiny So Cal cold) We frequently get frost in the winter and year before last we had snow all over our hills. It didn't last but there it was in all it's glory.

I enjoy gardening and I like being able to plant something all year round. In OC I could grow a winter veggie garden but here it gets too cold. No matter, I use the winter to plant bulbs and spring flowers, clean up those areas I'm not happy with and just putter.

I love sweaters and have a little collection of them. It's about all I need here. From time to time a heavier jacket is required but not often and only when we will be at an outside activity. I wear sleeveless all year round and almost all of my shoes are sandle types. (I like to see my toe polish)

Winter is rainy season. We can get a fair amount of it. Last year we beat our record. Still it never rains as much as say, Oregon or Washington. Not even close. We complain about it though. We SoCalers don't like to get wet. And we cannot figure out how to drive in the stuff. Unless of course a street is flooded and then everyone believes that their car will transform into a boat.

I am Thankful for the mild climate that we have compared to other parts of our country. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

*THANKFUL* five

I am Thankful for my parents.

I still have them. Both of them. They are in their 70's now God bless them and married to each other after all these 47 years.

They are in very good health for their age. They don't have any diseases like diabetes. Or cancer, like their goofy daughter. They have old aches and pains I'm sure but they don't complain. They travel whenever they can.

They are good people, immigrants, he from Germany and she from Canada. They are old fashioned, I like to say they are from the Old Country. Where papa comes home from a hard day and momma's been home all day acookin and acleanin. She waits on him hand and foot. They are decent hard working people. I love them very much.

I pray they have many more years ahead of them.

*THANKFUL* four

I am Thankful for my dog.

Maya B

No she is not a pug. We do not really know what she is.

She is a high strung poochie. Wiggles constantly. Doesn't bark much. Very sweet and cuddly. Has quirky habits like stealing socks.

I love her. Having a dog in the house is a comfort for me. They are always happy. They are thrilled to see you no matter how long you've been gone. They bring an engergy into a home, life. Simple life. They don't worry about your paycheck or taxes. They don't mind if you put on a few or a lot of pounds. They don't notice if you haven't showered or brushed your teeth. They live for the moment. And every moment is the only moment that matters.

A tiny 10 lb bundle of love.

I forget about the tough things of life when I cuddle my furry little girl.

*THANKFUL* three

I am Thankful for my home.

I love my home.

It's not huge. Who wants to clean a huge house?

It's not fancy. What is fancy?

It's cozy, filled with love, BH and now a dog. What more do you really need?

It's quiet usually. We don't have any real neighbors. Every window has a beautiful view. It's an older home that was designed and built by someone BH knows. It's not fussy. You can come in and put your feet up.

It is a very healing place for me. I've worked through some diffecult things here. I feel safe. Loved. I enjoy who I am. The minute I enter the long driveway I feel happy. I'm home. I feel good again.

*THANKFUL* two

I am thankful for BH.

He is the most kind, gentle and loving man I've ever met. He's open and honest. He loves me with all his heart. He tells me so all day, every day. He worries about me, protects me, takes care of me. He has not left my side since my whole medical ordeal started. I cannot imagine my life without him.

I love you baby! With all my heart.

Be sure to check out Pug Possessed. She is doing a 30 day of Thanks, pug style!

*THANKFUL* one

I am a thankful one!

It's time people. It's what you've been waiting for. NaBloPoMo This is National Blog Posting Month. The month where you write something to your blog every day. EVERY DAY! No matter how silly and meaningless. You can to to Fussy to get more information. But it's not complicated really, just write something, every day. My month is looking to be action packed but I really want to do this. So, here goes.

30 days of Thanksgiving

A tradition I've had for many years. I always make a list of the things I am thankful for. As soon as the boys could speak I would have them tell me things they were thankful for. Then we'd read them at the table on T-day. It's a special time for me.

I thankful for my children.

I love them with all my heart. They are my joy. My peace. My babies are fine young men now. They are kind, gentle and loving. They make good decisions (most of the time) and I'm so proud of all of them.
