*THANKFUL* nineteen

I am Thankful for my car!

I think most people these days take their cars for granted. It doesn't matter the cost, we NEED a car. But I've always been thankful for being able to drive and having a car that works.

When we first moved to the states I was very young and we lived next door to this family from Texas. They were such wonderful people and we kept in touch for many years after we moved from there. Doris, the mom, did not drive. She was a typical old fashioned lady and I loved her. She was kind, smart and hysterically funny with a contagious laugh. She never wrote a check and didn't know how drive. My mom drove her where she needed to go until her husband got home. When he died many years later she instantly became a non person. She recovered beautifully but I'll never forget how lost she was and how she struggled to learn everything that comes as second nature to most people.

I got my drivers license the minute I turned 16. I also opened a bank account and figured out on my own how to balance the checkbook.

I love to drive! I love being able to hop in my car and go where ever I please, when ever I want. I have loved every car I've ever owned. First was my daddy's old worn out VW. Then I got a Subaru Brat, (you never see them anymore but they were the hot thing in the late 70's) then we picked up an old '69 Mercedes, I loved that car, then a Mazda 626. When the family grew we thought we needed a van. I really didn't want to drive anything that big but we really did need a larger car. We got a Dodge Caravan. When we crashed that we got a Mazda MPV van. I have to say that the vans were my least fav cars. Now that my boys are all in their own cars I traded in the van for a Toyota Camry. It's a great car and I am thrilled to have it.

Do you want to see my dream car?

A little red Mini! Yes someday I will own her and she will be mine!
A few weeks ago I saw this. . . . .
Is that hideous or what?

A two seater min with this huge obnoxious can on top. Who would do that to such an adorable car? Who? Honestly!

Your neighbor sounds exactly like my grandma was, never drove and let her husband do everything. Thanks so much for your wonderful comments you are a great sense of support for me and have been incredibly helpful.

Thank you! Sometimes you don't know if your advice is helpful or not. I remember being a young mommy with 3 small little guys. I would often feel overwhelmed and wondered if I was doing the right things. Will I ruin my precious babies? The best advice I got was 'trust yourself'. YOU will do the very best for YOUR children.

I've made some huge mistakes, we all do but when I see my wonderful young men I know that my love for them covered a lot of those mistakes.

I agree, that Red Bull car is hideous. HOWEVER, if Red Bull gave me the car for free and all I had to do was drive around it in for them to get exposure. I would SO do it.
