How could I forget our visit to the apple orchards?

Every September as a way to celebrate FALL and my mothers birthday we head off to a local apple place. We have 2 within driving range, Oak Glen and Julian. Oak Glen is closer to us and I like it a whole lot better. This quaint city is in a loop of sorts around the hills and orchards. It is more spread out than Julian. In Julian you can park somewhere, anywhere and just about walk to everything. But at Oak Glen you need to drive to each little business area and orchard.

I was concerned when fires ravished the area last month but I hear that the town was not badly affected. It would not have stopped us unless they just closed the roads entirely. We would have just driven around and gawked at all the devastation.

What? You know you would too!

I have a favorite place in Oak Glen where I like to eat. Sometimes we have lunch and take our desert home.

But sometimes we eat them there.

This year we took the folks and some great friends.

Jack be littles!

This spring my BFF gave me some Jack be Littles pumpkin plants. I got orange ones and white ones.

They died of course. In the heat. But this is what they WOULD look like.

And she? She was able to produce 3 of the tiniest pumpkins I've ever seen. I'm not laughing, I'd be pleased as punch to have grown them too.

I think these are called Cinderella pumpkins. I really love the shape of these pumpkins. Also these pumpkins are ginormous. I would love to buy some and put them in my front yard. They're expensive and heavy so I don't. I can't lift them and I don't have the heart to ask my family to move them for me. I found this on Google Image. Don't know who took it or where it came from but I liked it so much that I had it framed. It's in the hall just before the bathroom.

This is cool.

I would love to do something like this. Then I remember there is an awful lot of work before you can even began the carving process. How long will it take to make a carving like this? Will it be rotten before you finish? And how long will it last? It's really a one night stand so, what do you do with it after? You throw it out or it gets smelly and buggy.

Maybe next year.

Or when I retire.

Or when I've gone completely bonkers.
