Let me 1st say that it NOT a girly book. Its also not a book that I would say 'I gotta read this.' It just might be a book that I would put in my book Que of books to read someday, like when I retire or get Alzheimer's because I'd have to completely forget that I hate these types of books. So when my good friend insisted I read this I thought he was nuts. It went like this.
'You need to read this.'
'That is not what I need to read.'
'I'll buy you a copy, really, you have to read this.'
'No, then I will feel guilty for not reading it and who needs that! Tell you what I'm gonna do, I'll check it out from the library.'
When I went to pickup this book from the library the librarian reached on the shelf with both hands and carried it to me. It was, the single most, biggest, ginormous book I have ever seen! 'Oh dear, I didn't realize it was so big.' kids were giggling at my side.
I get this monstrous book home and show BH. "WOW!" He was impressed as well. "How many pages?" I quickly turned to the back of the book and found that there was almost 900 pages. Yeah, that's what I said. I also noticed that it was large print. That made me feel better, not much but, a little.
I almost did not get through the first chapter. I really don't remember anything about the whole Enron thing. I understand thing none about corporate dealings and I barely understand what stocks are. The cast of idiots was three pages long! I had to continually turn to the characters as I read trying to figure out who everyone was. I also had to read the first couple of chapters over and over trying to make sense of the topics. I very nearly gave up it was so painful.
But by the third chapter I was hooked. It became a page turner and could not put it down. I got through it in a week.
It's not easy reading but I found it very enlightning.
I'm dealing with corporate idiots right now.
ack!!
