I have/had a pug. His name is Frank and he is the worlds greatest pug. As every pug owner knows, every pug is the worlds greatest pug. They are just the worlds greatest dogs.
Frank is healthy, fat and wrinkled like the perfect pug that he is. He continues to live with his daddy. He misses me terribly but I do get to visit when I am able.
Frank turned 3 years old around Thanksgiving 2005. My youngest son had been begging us for a pug for about 1 year. At the time we decided that with 3 boys, 3 cats, 2 dogs, 2 desert tortoises and a koi pond we were just not ready for another dog. A puppy just was not in our game plan. You know the potty training, chewing etcetera.
Well for Birthday and Christmas all he wanted was . . . a pug. That's it. Well of course we said NO WAY and then proceeded to check the want ads for a pug. We finally found a litter within an hour or so driving time and the breeder let us know that the puppies were only 6 weeks old and would be ready a couple of weeks after Christmas. We wanted the puppy to be there for the Special Day so we said, CASH, WE TAKE PUPPY NOW OR WE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. They said, take puppy, be happy.
We put the puppy in a box and upon arriving home we instructed youngest son, grouchily, to remove the box from the car. We hurriedly grabbed a camera as he checked the contents of the box before picking it up and exclaimed, "Hey, there's a dog in here." he didn't realize that it was a pug at first so we were able to snap a bunch of perfect, I am in love photos of son and new dog.
No, this is not Frank but it could have been. He was incredibly small. Could not walk without falling over and we fed him puppy milk with his chow for about 2 weeks.
He was the color of our carpet and so small that I insisted we keep him in a basket at all times. I feared that one of us or the dogs would trample and kill him.
Sometimes someone would forget to put him in the basket and the little fellow would fall asleep somewhere. Most times we would be able to find him by listening for his snoring. Most pug owners know this but we were amazed by how loud this little guy could snore. Shoot, he was the size of a Twinkie and snored louder than anyone I'd ever heard before.
