BPOH misc

These are some of the misc things about our humble abode I thought you might enjoy.

This is the elevated walk in front of the little house, or guest house, or apartment as BH calls it.

It is still being fixed up. There is new carpet and
tile. We've got debris from the little house on the wrap around porch. We're planning a dump run soon but until then we look like rednecks.









This is a view of the walk as you are comming from the Big House. It's a nice view. Very peaceful here. Notice the grass? No? Me either.











As you are comming from the little house toward what would have been the front of the house, now we refer to as the back of the house, you will see a juniper and a daisy bush. If you come through here at night when it is dark you may chance upon a spider web, complete with spider, especially if you are terrified of spiders. Which I am.







I call this the swing porch. Since I cannot figure out if it is the front or the back of the house.












This is a detail of the top of the swing. I had a ton of this stuff from Christmas that I put on my mantle in my former life. This house believe it or not does not have a fireplace, a wood burning stove, but no fireplace. Anyway I thought it looks great here. It does doesn't it?








In front of the swing I have this lovely flower border. This spring I planted herbs of thyme and majoram and lavender. The bunnies thoroughly enjoyed. They thanked me by leaving the lavender alone. I will fill this planter with wonderfully fragrant lavender. There are 2 rose bushes here that have beautiful roses. Some sort of amarylis on the left side. And to the far left is a little white thing. See it?




A chamber pot! An old chamber pot. I love it! I keep it out side in case nature calls.













This is the view from the swing porch. Those are my twin palms that were scorched in the fire. I had hoped to get the tops. They are growing back wonderfully. They even had flowers this year. There is a little deck to the right. There used to be a jacuzzi to the left of the spa. It left before I came.






Here is another view from that side of the house. It is the road we take to get to our house.
The road closest to the bottom is really a driveway to another property.










This is the view from where we park.













This is the view from the back of the house which is now the front of the house. It is a fenced in area where Tom and Moe cruise happily about. Coyote's climb up there, I think they live up and over. I've not been up there and BH won't let me wander to far because of the rattlers.







As I was taking pictures I found one of my little bunny friends.

BPOH Bedrooms

Now keep in mind we are redecorating and fixing up this old house. This is our bedroom. The bedsheet has been replaced by wonderful vertical blinds. Right on!

There are no pics on the wall yet. There are no switch plate covers either. My quilt that I have just finished is at the quilters and will be done today. So this is boring. We don't seem to mind.


This poor comforter has seen better days. I'll post when the new quilt goes up.














The closet doors are mirrored. This is an old oak piece. I like it. Very warm and cozy.













On top of that oak piece is this mini wood burning stove that my daddy gave me. Precious isn't it. All the little pots come off and you can open the doors and play with it.











I love this flag basket. I rescued it from the trash somewhere. Who would throw something like this away? I ask you!

I'll hang it when I find the right place. I love americana and primitive. I plan to make our home warm and cozy that way.








This is my night stand. It is really 2 plastic tubs with a Amish Sunlight and Shadows baby quilt that I made draped over it. I bought the Noah's Ark little drawer thing years ago. Our night clock, my CD player, headphones, floss and a glass of water.








This is BH's little hanger thing. He hangs various shirts, belts and whatnot over it. Yes, it is in front of his closet. No, I don't know why he can't hang them IN his closet.

The space in front of the hanger thing is where the laundry basket goes. It is in the laundry area at the moment.






The dresser that we share for our unmentionables. Very nice oak piece that matches the other oak piece. It has a wheat design carved in it. I love it.











Beside the oak dresser is a oak quilt rack that I found in BH's house when I moved in. How did he know he was going to fall in love with the quilt queen? The pinwheel baby quilt is in front. The quilt right behind it is my pumpkin quilt. I'll have to show that later and then right behind that is a denim quilt that was the first quilt I ever made over 20 years ago.





This is the entrance to the office. My sewing machine has moved from the kitchen table to the office. Well one of my sewing machines.

This is BH's desk.

This is my desk. I have my favorite bears on the left corner. One of them is a Furskin bear signed by it's maker, Xavier Roberts of Cabbage Patch doll fame. His name is Dudley. Then a jointed bear that I made years ago. Then a Fivel mouse. The comp is on my desk and I'm so happy we finally have a home computer in the house.
In other news:

Tom got out again. That blasted turtle. I put him in a box with bigger sides so that he couldn't climb out and what he did was tip the box over. So BH and I get home from work and he takes a quick shower to get ready to go out and he hollers from the bedroom. I come running expecting to see a snake or something in the bedroom and no, it's just Tom. You know Tom would run and hide if he could. Since he can't he just looks up at BH, all cute and funny. "Dude, somehow I fell out of the box. Hi! I'll just be on my way now."

FRIDAY BPOH Bathrooms

My bathroom is long and narrow. I had a tough time getting a decent picture of what it really looks like.

This is from the doorway.















Last weekend I had a mad shopping spree at Pic N Sav. I know it is called Big Lots now but it will always be Pic N Sav to me. Anywho I found this very cool shower curtain. $8.00! Now I have been looking for a shower curtain and haven't found one that I had to have in the price range I could afford. I saw this same curtain at Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things, I forget but it was about $40.00. Then I saw it at our outlet center for $20.00. While I liked it a lot I still thought I could find something I liked better. Then I found the same thing at Pic N Save. No kidding $8.00! For that price, who could say no.

Then there is this very beautiful mirror. I love this. It is a garage sale find and needs a little refinishing. It needs to be mounted.

On the counter are photos of my loves. Dave and longtime girlfriend Barbara, my mommy and me, Mike and Frank the day we brought him home. That orange stripe in the back is my dress in a photo of BH and I in Las Vegas.















The house is still being worked on so I don't have a med cabinet yet.















There is also this very cool wood med cabinet that we need to hang.

I didn't get a pic of it yet.

This is MY bathroom. I look forward to fixing it up and decorating it. It is the guest bathroom that everyone uses so I like to keep it clean. All my stuff is in it. I didn't show my new rug, gold to match the curtain and only $5.00. You guessed it, Pic N Sav.

BH's bathroom is even less finished. His poor med cabinet/mirror sits on the counter. His vanity has mold and will need to be replaced. There is new tile in both baths.

BPOH Kitchen and Show and tell

I am a little behind in my blogging chores. Last Thursday I had my biopsy or as I say 'The day my boobs caught on fire', but I'll share that experience another time.

Here it is, my toothbrush holder.

I don't have one. I do not like to have my toothbrush on my counter so I put it in a drawer with the rest of my stuff.

It's what I do.


And my kitchen. It's small, outdated but it gets the job done and I like it fine.

From the door that we call the front door but may not be the inteneded front door you see my stove. It's brand new as is the micro and works like a dream.
This is above the counter on the right. I love copper pots and stuff. Yes, I clean them every time I use them. I use Barkeepers Friend. No, I don't mind it all all. If you do it every time it's not so bad. I even have a little copper tea kettle on the stove that I've had for years. I just love the look and feel of copper. It works great in this kitchen of dark wood.

On the stove is this little cutie. He is very old. I got him at the Medieval Times in Buena Park when it had just opened. It was a great show then and the kids loved it. This little guy was in the gift shop. He had horns then. Being on the stove sort of melted them off. So much for a fire breathing dragon.
This of course is the spoon catch all. I've really got to go through it because I can't find the ones I want half the time and can't put them back when I'm done. This thing is stuffed.

I know you wanted a close up of the puggy thing.

See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. This is my philosophy in life.

The counter to the left of the sink. It is the bread and shake corner. You know, bread board, toaster, knives and blender for the shakes, smoothies etc.Little counter to the right of the sink. I can look out the window as I do dishes. Dishwasher, again elderly but working fine.
Fridge. Side by side, which I hate. But you know, it was here when I got here. It works great. I even have water and ice in the door which is very nice. How can I complain?

BPOH dining room

This is a little pittiful. We do not have a dining room. We do have a beautiful oak table with claw feet. I used to keep it set so that it looked as if we ate there. We don't. Right now my sewing machine is on it as well as everything we have in our hands when we walk in the door. We also keep a basket of bananas on the table at all times. It is a catch all for misc. mail. Cute tiffeny type lamp over the table. The window looks out into the patio area, which is a mess too. Dog gonnit. I really should start cleaning stuff up a little.

BPOH Family and living room

This is our living room. The door there may have been the entry front door at one time. It sticks and I can't get it open. No one comes in from there anyway.

BH just got this furniture. It's beautiful but no one uses this room really His chess set is on the table along with a quilt a friend gave me. Under the table is a few games like Scrabble, Life, Rummicubes and my fav Yatzee. We also got this cool game called Barricade. It's kind of a homemade game. I have an antique Yo-yo quilt pillow in the corner of the couch.
These are the windows in that room. It has a beautiful view. The quilt that I am making for our bed is laid out on the floor. I may put my treadle sewing machine there where the little table is. Still thinking about that.
This is the family room where we really live. To the right of the tv is four folding doors. Behind those doors is the washer/dryer. This room was a garage at one time.

These are the couches in front of the tv. There is a little ottoman in front of this very comfortable matching chair. The Chair, while comfortable will pitch you forward unless you use the ottoman. You cannot see the windows well. There is a nice view from them and there is a window seat there. The little plastic tub in the far right corner of the room is where Tommy the turtle stays when we are not at home. Mo's box is to the right, you can't see it.This is behind the couches. Window look into our fenced patio area. There is a beautiful hutch there and to the right of it is my treadle sewing machine. Further right is a wought iron fireplace.

This is the fireplace. It leaked this winter and needed to be cleaned out so we were not able to use it. We do burn a lot of candles here and oil lamps as well.

My treadle machine. I love this and construct most of my quilts on it. It works beautifully. It's from the 1800's sometime. The chair is from the 30's or 40's. I need to refinish it.

Parade of homes* front entry

BH's house is a little different. It was built by an individual rather than a track home. It is kind of out in the middle of nowhere and a little different. So here it is. This is the view you get from the gate that you see when you pull up into the driveway. I have to remember that this house has been changed. At first the driveway came from a different direction. The garage has been converted into the family room. I don't know all the stuff about this house and it is still a little confusing to me. I consider this the front door. I don't think that it was intended as a front door but the back. This is also where we saw the snake. We always enter the house this way.
This is where I have all my tomato plants. The ones that did not grow because it was so so hot this year.
This is where we enter the house. The kitchen is to the left and the dining area to the right. Further right is the family room where we watch TV.
To the right of the driveway is this walkway. I think this was the original front of the house. To the right is our guesthouse. The left is the main house.

Round the little bend. See the bird bath.

To the left is our master bedroom. Slider goes into our room. I need a little bistro set here I think. Some Wisteria would be very nice over this patio area. Front door is to the right in this pic.

Front door area. I also need to revamp and pretty this area up. There is a hose here. In front of that greenery that you see is a beautiful rose bush.

This is the official front door that we do not use. The door sticks quite a bit so I can't even open this door. Security door on the other side that I am never able to get open.Just past the front door is this door. In front here what I call the swing porch.
