It's rent week and Mr. Sullivan comes in with his check. We chat for a spell and when he leaves The Irishman hustles into my office.
Irish: Do you know the origin of Sullivan?
me: English, British I think, I knew a Sullivan from England.
Irish: Naaa, it's Gaelic.
Irish knows all about this. He speaks Gaelic.
me: You don't say?
Irish: Yes, and wait till I tell you whot it means.
me: I can't wait.
Irish: The bastard son of a one eyed man!
me: WHAT?
Irish: Yes, it does, Sulle means eye and van means one. Bastard son of a one eyed man!
me: So how do you know it's a illegitimate child?
Iris: Ahh well, the Mc's, they were the legitimate children, the O's were the illegitimate children. O'Sullivan.
me: But it's not O'Sullivan, it's just Sullivan.
Irish: AAHH well it used to be O'Sullivan, somewhere down the line they dropped the O.
So there you have it.
Bastard child of a one eyed man!
You learn something new every day.

Printer love
The Irishman in our office is hilarious.
He doesn't think he is and at first glance, he's not really. But I find his stories comical and his attitude in life refreshing.
The Irishman: My printers makin a funny noise.
(he is a little, make that a lot, technically challenged. He often comes to me to help him open attachments and fix the messes he makes on his computer, phone, fax, you name it.)
me: Is it happy to see you?
The Irishman: Oh I don't think so.
I check it out and the darn thing is hot, very hot. We shut everything down, let it cool and then start it up again. When I do I discover that the paper uptake wheel is clicking badly, upon closer look the little plastic cogs are broken. It was not an expensive printer and these things cannot be repaired for what he paid for it, cheaper to buy a new one.
The Irishman: *sigh*
The boss: It doesn't like you!
The Irishman: Well we've been married for three years now!
me: Time for a new wife Irishman.
