Congratulations Obama!

WARNING! POLITICAL SHITE UP AHEAD.

Read on at your own risk.

Congratulations to the Obama household.

I didn't vote for him but I think he is going to make a fine president. I hope that people didn't vote for him because he was black. Because they feel it's high time we had a black president. I hope those that voted for him did so because they truly felt he was the best man for the job.

Now that the people have spoken, regardless of who you voted for, let all support the new leader of our country.

But I am happy about this

Proposition 8 passed!

WOOT! WOOT!

This proposition, I don't understand. In case you are in another state you may not have heard of this. Proposition 8 is in favor of heterosexual marriage. Keeping the definition of 'marriage' as a legal union between a man and woman. That's it.

Now we voted for this already, when, I forget, but we did. We passed it and everything. Then, someone or someones, in high places, I forget who they are, decided that marriage should not discriminate. Man/man or woman/woman or man/woman. It's all the same. Anyway, some time ago, we voted and decided that we wanted to keep the traditional definition of marriage to man/woman. The courthouse was flooded with couples previously not permitted to marry, lining up in droves to get married. Even Ellen, who I think is funny and wonderful, rushed on out and married her girlfriend.

So we had to do this again, vote that is, on this marriage thing.

And we won!

Marriage in California is traditional. One man/one woman.

And the gays are crying. Truly crying. It's all over the news. WE HATE THEM, WHY IS EVERYONE SO MEAN TO THEM?

No matter how you feel about it, it's not about hate. It's not about discrimination. It's not about keepin the gay man down. (or woman, or whatever)

I don't hate gays. I don't! I don't love them either. They are just people, like everyone else. I admit I find their behavior amusing. I find their culture interesting. I also find many of them to be very sad individuals. One young man, dear friend of the family, grew up with my boys, has obviously been gay since childhood. We all knew it. My boys knew it. The church knew it. It was tough for him. Christian parents, surrounded by Christians. He was defiantly a girl in a boys body. All his life. I don't know how to explain it. I don't know why it happened. Was he born that way, with those tendencies? I think so. There were no known incidents of abuse or other sexual trauma. So why?

There is no real answer, any answer that makes sense. But here it is. This charming, wonderful, beautiful young man. Trapped. It terribly hurt his parents and for years couldn't get over it. Couldn't accept it. Cried and prayed and cried some more. Still nothing changed.

He is now an adult. He's a bit of a space cadet. He has a fiance. He lives in San Fransisco. He cannot stop getting surgeries. It's madness! He just can't get to that place where he feels normal. Where he feels right. He's terribly unhappy. All the time.

Today he enjoys a great relationship with his parents. I'm happy to see that. I enjoy his company when he comes down for a visit. I wish him well. He will always hold a special place in my heart.

Is it so wrong? Can we love gays and still want to maintain the traditional definition of marriage? I hope so.

It's not about hate.

It's not about discrimination.

It's about preserving, not redefining. I just don't think it's necessary.

Who did I vote for?

RALPH NADER!

Did you see him on the ballot? I had no idea!

Love Ralph.

Keep trying Ralphie, some day, you will be president!

Nader wasn't on our ticket. That's weird. I did vote Obama, but not because he's black. I voted for him mostly because he's not McCain, because McCain scares the crap out of me. I voted for Bush twice. I didn't want to vote for him again, and that's all I saw in McCain...

I was surprised to see Nader too!

Many of my bloggy and real life friends voted for Obama. All white and voted for him because they like him. I too voted for Bush. Twice! Yikes!

I am really warming up to Obama. I think he's going to be one of our best presidents and I'm thrilled for our country.
