SCORE!!!!!

I have been trying to get myself to the farmers market for weeks and weeks. We've worked most of the weekends this summer and I've not had the chance. Soooo, last weekend I just had to go to the Farmers Market in Temecula and Woooohoooo! It was so wonderful. Wanna see what I got?

Come see. . .

Look at these!!!!! Yellow bells!

Either this chickie loves bells or I have something planned for these beauts. Stay tuned.

Toms! They had all manor of toms this weekend. Many many heirloom varieties, which I la la love but, these Celebrities were huge. I know this grower and she always has tasty toms.

Habaneros! The hottest peppers on the planet! I have an awful lot here. Hmmmmm.

And look at these!

FIGS!

I so love figs.Three different varieties. Black Mission, a green kind and a stripy kind. I forget their names but I had to have them. The inside of the stripy kind. Looks like a regular fig, taste the same. YUMMO!

And these. . . . .The ugliest things I've ever seen. Passion fruit! I'd heard about them. Even seen them in the market before but had never tried them. I asked for a taste and WOW!
The inside.
Just as ugly on the inside. Kind of looks like fish eggs or. . . I don't know. . ugly. . but these are so so good. The grower says they taste like fruit punch. I think they taste a little like a sweet grapefruit. You don't eat the outside, scoop out the pulp, seeds and all.So good in fact that I bought the vine.

It's a vine! I had no idea. The grower wouldn't let me buy it.

WHAT!

He said, 'Do you know what you're getting into?'

I didn't.

He showed me pictures of this massive vine.

'It will grow all over your wall, your neighbors wall, it's a monster!'

Hmmmmm.

'Will it grow in the heat? It can get kind of cold where we are?'

'Oh yes!' he says, 'I'm in Fallbrook, we get frost, and I have it in full sun.'

Isn't that sweet? Fallbrook is lovely, very temperate. Yes, a little colder in the winter but the summers are wonderful. And Elsinore is. . . well, considerably hotter.

BH tells me to get it.

I do!

And look at this Basil! Isn't it beautiful? I pick up a couple of bunches. It looks like Pesto is on the menu. I've got basil in my garden. African Basil. Awesome stuff. Unlike regular basil it's perennial. However my basil bolted all summer in this blasted heat. Hopefully I'll be able to make pesto in the middle of winter. We had to stop by Trader Joe's for some pine nuts.

Well I needed a few other things so I went to the 99 cent only store.

Eggs! 99 cents!

Limes! 99 cents! Look at that huge bag of limes!

Spaghetti sauce, pork rinds! That's right! 99 cents!

I'll be making this awesome Pesto, shrimp pizza. It is so good. Low carb recipe, I'll post later. Pug Posse if you like pesto and shrimp you will have to try this pizza! I'm still working on a low carb pizza but this recipe is very good. BH likes it and he doesn't low carb. The crust uses cream cheese and pork rinds. It's good! Try it! You'll like it!

I'll post recipe later.

And the reason I bought so many bells?

You wanna know?

And the Habranero's?

No clue?

Next post.
