Forcast for yesterday
Scattered showers
Yesterday was a busy out of the office work day. We needed to do a final home inspection on a house in Hemet. It's a boring place, no need to look it up. It's rather late in the day and we go go home, water the dog and decide to take her with us. We hear it's raining there and flooding some. This happens when it rains, even a little, because there is not a lot of building over there and the streets are not improved in the majority of the city. On the way there it is pouring. POURING. Windshield wipers cannot keep up. This doesn't last long. It sprinkles, it pours, it stops altogether. We do our thing in the rain. Maya loves the trip and seeing the new people.
On the way home we stop in Winchester. Another boring place. Probably more boring than Hemet. Ithere's a little bar/restaurant combo. The bar is called The Bum, the restaurant is called The Steer. Get it, The Bum Steer. Yeah. The bar is a local watering hole and is loud and packed. The restaurant, empty. We think it may be closed and we'll have to eat in the bar or go somewhere else. Since there is nothing else I'm hoping we can eat somewhere. The bar is filled with locals and their children. It looks dirty. We're allowed to sit in the empty restaurant and we're served by a delightful young girl with a huge tattoo across her back. She's cute and clean. The tables and floor, look ok. We worry about the condition of the kitchen however. And it's a good thing I didn't go to the bathroom first.
She turns on the tv for us. The news. We hear a strange report. There is a tornado warning in Lake Elsinore. Lake Elsinore? Seriously? A tornado? What! Oh yes. We've got weather today. We got your thunder, your lightning, your hail, some snow on the mountains and TORNADOS. Ah huh. We watch the news anxiously. Cell phone photos of the twisters. Yes twisters. There are two. This little cell has sprung up, out of nowhere, we'll be driving right into it, nothing we can do. I call middle to ask what is going on at home. 'Nothin, it's just raining, windy.' We tell him about the tornado warning. BH tells him to hide in the basement. 'We don't have a basement' middle says, 'do we?' Clueless child.
On the way home we hit more severe weather. We try to take the roads that will be less flooded. We avoid the 215 which we hear is bad. On the way home we hit a huge puddle. After which our car makes a delightful noise. Much like a diesel truck. LOUD. BH says that people pay a lot of money to make their cars sound that way. Ah huh. We'll be paying a lot of money to make it stop.
We make it home without a hitch. Others were not so lucky. A train was derailed and a truck overturned.
We've just never seen such things in these parts.
