Mother Nature

Tooooo cute. Couldn't resist.

I went shopping this weekend and got to buy cute baby stuff. I got our little Pollins baby boy a cute onsie. Then BH's granddaughter will be 1 this week so I got her a cute little swimsuit and sun dress, little sneakers, I looked for a hat to match, hopefully I'll find something before the party.

And the creatures are a multiplying!
Growing up a city girl with a country heart I have to say that it is different living off the beaten path. There are a whole lot more creatures than I thought about. This cute little froggie was sittin on one of my boxes. Later that evening we saw a huge fat wobbly toad by the driveway.

Here is another little gem that we found on the side walk in front of our house. Yep. It's a snake. A decent sized one I might add.

BH takes one look and says 'rattler! Get back!' Well I have never been this close to a rattler so I come in for a closer look. No really! I've seen the Crocodile Hunter, I know what to do! The snake was perfectly peaceful, mindin his own darn affairs and not lookin for any trouble. Upon closer inspection I do not see any rattles.

Me: Babe, arn't rattlers suppose to have rattles?

BH: What? No rattles? It sure looks like a rattle snake. Don't move. I'm going to get my gun.

Me: Why? It's not a rattlesnake.

BH: They can still bite!

Me: No. Don't kill it. Snakes are good things, they eat rats and mice, they are one with nature.

Now why I tried so hard to save the darn things life I don't really know. If it had been a spider that size I would have soiled myself and become catatonic for 2 weeks. I don't particularly like snakes but they don't freak me out or anything. I don't want them loose in my house but I do know that we have an overabundance of rodents on the property so I can assume the snake should be fat and sassy in about 2 days. I was content to go inside and let the thing be. Not BH. He is ready to shoot the MF. Instead, because he loves me, he got a broom and encouraged the snake to take it elsewhere. Mind you the snake is not pleased about being broomed and it strikes and hisses. OMG. It sure sounded like a rattler. It coiled up, hissed, striked. Yikes! It did manage to make it outside the gate.

And the fire! Remember our fire? So every, and I do mean every, creature that was displaced by the fire has taken up residence in our yard. We are officially the Gunnerson Fire critter santuary. Mercy! Squirrels and bunnies and mice, oh my! I was so excited about having a garden this year. I've planted tomatoes, squash, herbs, onions. It is all chewed up. All of it. The only things they haven't touched is stuff that was there before I moved in. Which is why it is still there. It's stuff they don't like.

I'm gonna stop thinking about it all and go get my nails done and a pedicure.

Yeah, I see that snake...gosh, are you sure you don't want to kill it? It sure looks like a rattle snake. I'm all for keeping varmits out, too, but no thank you! I'd rather see a spider. But do you have cockroaches out there? I mean the B-I-G ones that live here in the South.... That is worse than a snake to me. Serves no purpose either.

So. Cal does have it's share of roaches but here at the property I have yet to see a single one. But let me tell you about the earwigs. I have always known earwigs to be an outsdie bug. I have them in droves on the inside. Ridiculus. Hundreds I tell you. They arn't dirty like roaches or flies but they are in everything. I am going out of my mind.
